Krabi airport’s arrivals hall is smaller than the argument you are about to have about it. Wide-bodies from the Gulf land here now and the new terminal cost nearly four billion baht, yet getting from Krabi airport to Ao Nang, Railay, Koh Lanta or Phi Phi still comes down to two counters, a laminated fare board and a shared minivan that leaves when the driver says it is full. Here is the arrival as of October 2026, in the order you meet it.
The short version: most people land on a domestic flight from Bangkok and walk straight out; if you flew in direct, file your Thailand Digital Arrival Card first. Ignore anyone who approaches you in the hall and go to the Phichet Transport counter for a ฿150 seat in a shared van to Ao Nang, or the taxi counter for a fixed ฿600–700 sedan. Railay is a van plus a ฿100 longtail, Lanta a ฿400–500 van to your hotel door, Phi Phi a taxi to Klong Jilad pier and a ferry before 15:00. Land after dark and pre-book the car.
Before you land at Krabi airport: who clears immigration here, the TDAC and the 30-day stamp
Most arrivals are domestic. AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion, Vietjet and Thai fly Bangkok–Krabi a dozen-plus times a day (80 minutes, ฿900–2,500 one way). If that is you, immigration happened at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang and Krabi is a carousel and a door; the fly-or-bus decision is costed in Bangkok to Krabi.
As of October 2026 the direct international flights I can see are Scoot from Singapore, AirAsia and Firefly from Kuala Lumpur, IndiGo from Mumbai, Etihad from Abu Dhabi, Air Arabia from Sharjah and China Airlines from Taipei. Land on one of those and immigration is here: a few counters, no autogates that I know of, 30–45 minutes when two flights arrive together and ten when they do not. You need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, filed free online within the three days before landing, and the 30-day visa exemption in force since 15 September decides your stamp.
The three Krabi airport terminals that are really one building, and the arrivals hall
Krabi International Airport has Terminals 1, 2 and 3 on paper. The 2025 expansion joined them into one long building: Terminal 3, soft-opened on 26 September 2025, took the domestic flights, Terminals 1 and 2 were refitted around it, and the complex is now rated for eight million passengers a year. It is still small: ten to fifteen minutes from a domestic door to the kerb.
The arrivals hall is one room. AIS, True and dtac counters sell tourist SIMs at ฿299–599; if you flew direct, an eSIM bought before departure is cheaper (Simbye from about $2; code DESTTHAI15 takes 15% off). Every ATM charges a foreign card ฿220 a withdrawal, so take one large sum, ฿15,000–20,000, decline the conversion offer and stop; the boats and van counters run on cash, the money guide lists the cards that refund the fee, and the Price Index has what a longtail should cost. Between the doors and the kerb, people with lanyards will say “taxi, where you go?” and quote ฿1,000 for the ฿600 ride. They are not the counter, which has printed prices and a receipt.

Krabi airport to Ao Nang: shared van, taxi counter, Grab or pre-booked car
The airport is 14 kilometres north-east of Krabi Town and 26 from Ao Nang, 30–45 minutes by car; no train, no boat, so the decision is which counter.
Shared van (Phichet Transport). The counter is in the arrivals halls of Terminals 1 and 2: ฿150 a seat to Ao Nang, leaving when full, so a wait of five minutes to an hour, then a hotel drop, 45–90 minutes door to door. Verdict: the default for one or two people in daylight; skip it after about 20:00.
The taxi counter. Fixed fares on a board, paid at the desk against a slip, no meter anywhere in the province. As of October 2026 a sedan for up to three or four is around ฿600–700 to Ao Nang, a minivan ฿800–1,050. The honest cartel: nobody negotiates, nobody lies. Verdict: worth it from three people up, or for anyone landing late.
Grab. It works (pick-up point signposted from the hall), the way a thin market works: around ฿450–650 to Ao Nang when a driver accepts, and before 06:00 or after about 22:00 nobody may accept at all. Verdict: fine by day with light luggage; not a plan for a night landing.
Pre-booked private car. Saves nothing, fixes everything. 12Go’s Krabi airport to Ao Nang page lists sedans and vans from around ฿550–700 with the price fixed at booking and a driver with a sign in arrivals; GetYourGuide sells the same transfer. Verdict: do it for late landings, families and anyone who does not want to think.

Krabi airport to Krabi Town: the ฿400 taxi and the cheap first night
Krabi Town is the actual Thai town: a river, a night market, the best hostels on the coast and no beach. The counter taxi is around ฿400–500 as of October 2026, 20–25 minutes; Grab ฿300–450 when it comes; the Phichet van drops in town for around ฿100–150, and there are pre-booked cars on 12Go.
For a late landing it is often the right answer: a ฿400 taxi, dinner at the night market, the boat in the morning. Two places I would actually put people: Pak Up Hostel, two minutes from the market, dorm beds from around ฿400, and Krabi Heritage Hotel, the clean, quiet double from around ฿1,400. The where-to-stay guide and things to do in Krabi cover the rest.
Krabi airport to Railay: van, longtail and a pier that moves with the season
Railay has no road, so every route from the airport ends in a longtail and wet shoes. The usual chain is the ฿150 shared van to Ao Nang, then a longtail from the eastern end of the beach: ฿100 a head by day, ฿150 after about 18:00, leaving with eight passengers or when someone pays ฿800 for the empty seats, 10–15 minutes to Railay West. In the dry months that lands you on the famous beach; from roughly May to October the same boats land at the Railay East pier instead. You step off the bow into knee-deep water either way; pack a dry bag, not wheels.
The wet-season chain: a counter taxi to Ao Nam Mao, the pier east of Ao Nang, around ฿600–700 and 35–45 minutes, then a ฿100 longtail to Railay East (about six passengers, roughly 09:00 to 18:30). From Krabi Town, Chao Fah pier longtails take 45 minutes for around ฿150, mornings.
The trap is timing: the boats stop around dusk, and “around” means when the boatman decides. Land before 15:00 and any chain works; land at 18:00 and you are sleeping in Ao Nang, which is no hardship: Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort (from around ฿3,800 in cool season) has a hillside pool over the bay for exactly this night. 12Go’s Krabi airport to Railay page sells the van and boat as one morning ticket, which removes the counter, not the tide. On the peninsula, Railay Bay Resort and Spa (from around ฿4,000) runs coast to coast, so either landing works. The Railay guide rates the four beaches.

Krabi airport to Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket
Koh Lanta. Do not go into town first. The arrivals counters sell a shared van to Lanta with a hotel drop for ฿400–500, car ferry included; it leaves when full and you are on Long Beach 2–2½ hours later. The last vans go around 17:00 and in December and January they fill, so pre-booking Krabi airport to Koh Lanta on 12Go matters. A private car is ฿2,000–2,800; the high-season ferry from Klong Jilad pier (฿450–600, roughly November to April) is prettier and leaves you a Saladan taxi to pay. Every month and every scam is in How to Get to Koh Lanta.
Koh Phi Phi. The boats leave from Klong Jilad pier, south of Krabi Town, 30–40 minutes from the airport by counter taxi (around ฿500–700 a sedan; read the board, I have seen higher quotes). As of October 2026 the ferries run from 09:00 to a last sailing around 15:00, two hours to Tonsai for around ฿450–600; speedboats do it in an hour for about ฿1,000. Land by 13:00, or buy van and ferry as one ticket on 12Go’s Krabi airport to Koh Phi Phi page, pick-up timed to the sailing. Whether Phi Phi is worth the night, we have answered honestly.
Phuket. People land at Krabi because the fare was ฿800 cheaper and then discover Phuket is three hours away. A shared van is around ฿400–600 a seat and 3–3½ hours, a private car ฿2,500–3,500; the Krabi to Phuket listing on 12Go shows vans and high-season ferries via Phi Phi side by side. Next time, read the Phuket airport arrival guide and fly to the right island.

Night arrivals, the last vans and the low-season version of Krabi airport
The last flights from Bangkok land between about 21:00 and 23:00. The taxi counter stays open for every arrival; the Phichet van fills slowly after 20:00 and the last one goes when nobody is left to wait for; Grab thins out after 22:00. Nothing goes to Railay, Lanta or Phi Phi after dark: the boats stop at dusk, the last Lanta van is around 17:00, the last Phi Phi ferry 15:00. So: car or counter taxi to Ao Nang or Krabi Town, a bed, and the boat in the morning.
Low season, May to October, changes the arithmetic rather than the rules: vans wait longer to fill, the Lanta and Phi Phi passenger ferries thin out or stop (the car ferry and the vans do not), the Railay boats move to the East pier, and rooms on the whole coast drop 30–45 per cent. Best time to visit Thailand has the month by month.
Leaving from Krabi airport: how early, what the ride back costs and the three-hour rule
The ride back costs no more than the way in, because there is no counter at your hotel. A taxi from Ao Nang to the airport is around ฿600–700 through any travel desk on the beach road, a shared van ฿150 a seat (they collect you three hours before an international flight, two before a domestic, because six other hotels come first); 12Go’s Ao Nang to Krabi airport page fixes the price the night before. From Railay the first longtails go around 07:30–08:00 and the chain to the gate takes 2½–3 hours; the boatmen will not be hurried by your boarding pass.
The three-hour rule is real here: one long departures hall, and a Gulf wide-body can put three hundred people into six desks at once. Since the reshuffle everyone enters through Terminal 1, checks in on the third floor and walks to gates 1–7 (international) or 8–14 (domestic); follow the signs, not your booking. Three hours international, two domestic; AirAsia shuts check-in 60 and 45 minutes out respectively, and means it. Eat in town; airside is a coffee counter.
The honest bit: Krabi airport is easy and the coast behind it is not. Nothing here is a scam in the sense the scams guide warns about; prices are on boards, vans go where they say, boats land where the sea allows. Decide where you sleep tonight before you land, book the ride if it is dark, carry cash for the boat; the Krabi province profile covers the rest.
Krabi airport arrivals: your questions, answered
How do I get from Krabi airport to Ao Nang?
Four ways. The Phichet Transport counter in arrivals sells a ฿150 seat in a shared van that leaves when full and drops at your hotel in 45–90 minutes; the fixed-fare taxi counter charges around ฿600–700 for a sedan; Grab runs ฿450–650 when a driver accepts; and a pre-booked private car is ฿550–700, the sensible choice after dark.
How much is a taxi from Krabi airport to Krabi Town?
As of October 2026 the airport taxi counter charges around ฿400–500 for a sedan to Krabi Town, a 20–25 minute ride with no meter and no haggling. Grab usually comes in at ฿300–450 when a driver is available, and the shared airport van drops in town for around ฿100–150.
Can I get from Krabi airport to Railay on the same day?
Yes, if you land before about 15:00. Take the ฿150 shared van to Ao Nang and a ฿100 longtail to Railay West (฿150 after 18:00), or a counter taxi to Ao Nam Mao pier and a ฿100 boat to Railay East, where the boats land in the wet season. The longtails stop around dusk, so a late landing means a night on the mainland.
Is there a direct transfer from Krabi airport to Koh Lanta?
Yes. The arrivals counters sell a shared minivan to Koh Lanta with a hotel drop for ฿400–500, car ferry included, 2–2½ hours; it leaves when full and the last vans go around 17:00. A private car is ฿2,000–2,800. Pre-book in December and January, when the last vans fill.
Do I need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card when flying into Krabi?
Only on an international flight. If you arrive direct from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, the Gulf or Taipei you clear immigration at Krabi and the TDAC is checked there, so file it free online within the three days before you land. On a domestic flight from Bangkok you cleared immigration there and need nothing further.
