Independent reviews of hotels, restaurants, bars and experiences across Thailand. Every one is a place we have actually been, paid for out of our own pocket, and written up in the same format so you can compare them honestly.
How we review
Every review is a real visit. We pay our own way unless we tell you otherwise, and we run each write-up through the same sections: what it actually costs in baht, who it is for and who it is not, the honest bit, and a plain verdict. We do not give scores out of ten. The full method is set out below the reviews.

Reviews you can actually use
Most Thailand reviews online are either a press release with adjectives or a single visit by someone who never came back. Ours are neither, and here is exactly what we do so you can judge how much weight to give them.
What we review
Four things, all of which we pay for at the door: hotels and guesthouses across every price bracket, from 600-baht provincial rooms to the Bangkok riverfront; restaurants and bars, with a bias towards places making a claim worth testing; experiences — gyms, dive schools, tours, courses, the things that take a day of your trip; and clinics and wellness, the fastest-growing reason people fly to Thailand and the category with the worst information online.
We review in Bangkok most often because we live here, and we review provincially whenever we travel — which, given we have written up all 77 provinces, is often.
The format, and why every review looks the same
We do not give scores out of ten. A 7.4 implies a precision a single visit cannot support, and it flattens the only question that actually matters — whether somewhere is right for you — into one number. What we do instead is run every review through the same sections, in the same order, so that two reviews can be compared honestly:
- What the place actually is — who owns it, how long it has been there, and what it is really selling, as opposed to what the branding says.
- The experience, in detail — the meal, the room, the session, the treatment. What was ordered, what arrived, and what it was like as a normal paying customer on a normal day.
- What it costs — itemised, in baht, including the extras that appear at the end. Not a price bracket.
- Who it is for — and who it is not — the section we consider the most useful thing in any review, and the one a score cannot replace.
- The honest bit — whatever we would warn a friend about. Every review has one, including the places we liked.
- Getting there and practical details — nearest BTS or MRT, opening hours, whether booking is needed, what to bring.
- The verdict — would we spend our own money here again, and who we would send.
What we do not do
We do not sell reviews, verdicts, or placement in this section, and no amount of budget changes one. We do not run reviews written by anyone who has not been. We do not take a free stay in exchange for a favourable write-up; if something is comped we say so in the review and write it as though we had paid. We do not let affiliate links influence a verdict — the commission is identical whether we recommend a place or tell you to skip it, and we publish the ones we would skip. And we do not quietly delete a review because a venue complains; if we get something wrong we correct it in public, with a note saying what changed.

Suggest a place — or invite us
If you have been somewhere in Thailand that deserves either a recommendation or a warning, tell us — reader tips decide a good share of what we visit next. Venues and operators are welcome to get in touch as well, on one condition, which we will not move on: an invitation buys a visit, not a verdict. We may decline it, we may be critical, and we will always disclose it.
Reviews FAQ
Do you accept payment for reviews?
No. Nobody can buy a review or a verdict from us. We do sell clearly labelled sponsored content, and it lives outside this section: it is marked as sponsored at the top, it never carries a verdict, and it never appears alongside the reviews as though it were one. If a venue comps a meal, a room or a session, we say so in the review itself and write it up exactly as we would have if we had paid.
Do you give star ratings or scores out of ten?
No, deliberately. A 7.4 out of 10 implies a precision no single visit can support, and it collapses the only question that matters — whether a place is right for you — into one number. Instead every review runs the same sections and ends with a plain verdict: what the place is, the experience in detail, what it costs in baht, who it is for and who it is not, the honest bit, and how to get there. If you want the short answer, read the verdict; if you want to know whether it suits your trip, read who it is not for.
Why are there so few reviews?
Because each one is a real visit, on our own budget, and we started this section in July 2026. We would rather publish one review a fortnight that we stand behind than fill a page with places we have never been. The list grows slowly and on purpose.
Can I suggest a place, or invite you to review one?
Yes to both, and they are different things. Suggestions from readers are free and welcome — tell us what to try and we will add it to the list. Venues can invite us too, on the understanding that an invitation buys a visit and nothing else: we may decline, we may be critical, and we will disclose that we were invited.
